Welcome to Singapore's hidden gem

This hotel was one of my surprising finds in Singapore!

In Singapore, most hotels reside in the central city area, the Dusit resided somewhere peaceful away from the city bustle.

As I arrived at this hotel the first thing I noticed was the unusual architecture of the hotel. The sweeping curves gave this hotel a sense of mystique and raised my level of  anticipation.

So, let’s “check in” and take a look around this surprising hotel.

The hotel

The Dusit Thani is a luxury property and a member of Dusit Hotels and Resorts, that operates over 300 hotels worldwide. The hotel has 198 rooms and suites, and is located alongside the Laguna National Golf Resort Club.

What sets this hotel apart from the city hotels is the sense of calm, the space and the massive swimming pool! My Dad traveled with me on this trip and I chose this hotel because he loves swimming laps... although he wouldn't admit that!

Adjacent to the pool are 6 self-contained 2 story condominiums that face directly to the golf course.

The Reception

Those not accustomed to this hotel … such as myself; may be forgiven for getting lost.

The hotel actually had two lobbies. One lobby was the welcome point for the Laguna National Golf Club, while the second, located 50 metres further along,  was the hotel Lobby. Once I worked that out; I was able to find my bearings and check in!

At reception a wooden Dusit Thani Laguna QR code was prominently displayed. I found this app gave me a gateway to hotel information, services, as well as direct access to flight arrival and departure times for aircraft at Changi International Airport.

Why not try the QR code while you are here?

Resort facilities and activities

The swimming pool was a significant feature of this hotel. Ample space to swim laps, but also plenty of shallow space for kids to play and there were also water lounges to relax on.

The hotel boasts direct access to an 18-hole golf course in addition to a 9-hole putting green. Perfect for the golf enthusiast.

Resort food and beverage choices

The Greenhouse Restaurant

The Greenhouse restaurant embellished it’s name sake; with plants and greenery everywhere. It set a standard for ambience that is rare to find since it's common for restaurants to appear more industrial now. The restaurant catered for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offered a buffet. There were small satellite kitchens all offering a different international delicacy. It was exciting to wander through the foliage to choose from Italian, Thai , Chinese or local Singaporean favourites.

The pool bar was a little more than a pool bar. It had a sophisticated feel and operated as an alternative venue for the Greenhouse.

Open between 11 am and 9pm guests could purchase western style food from the grill. The bar was fully stocked and the staff were always ready to serve up any cocktail. Pool staff also delivered food and drinks to areas around the pool.

Legends Bar

Legends bar was the evening go to place, where nightly live music was offered. Located within The Greenhouse restaurant, this space was full of greenery. Bar staff were on hand to pour a wine and shake a cocktail. Legends bar was also the place to go for a smaller meal. They had an a la carte menu, with share plates and a blend of western and Asian dishes.

TABLE IS FREE!

The Greenhouse restaurant had a lot of small pockets and Dust Thani had an innovative solution to help staff see the status of every table.

Each table had an invertible wooden cylinder, red on one end and green on the other. If red is facing up, then your out of luck... someone already has the table and you have to find a different one!

A spectacular event venue

Banquets foyer area on level 2 with views to the golf course and pool

The banquet floor was home to the Laguna Ballroom with a seating capacity of 500 people that offered the expected flexibility of being broken into smaller rooms. The venue also had a boardroom and meeting rooms with natural light overlooking the golf course.

Forget a clothed table with a skirt, this venue had its own portable buffet bar. Ideal for food or beverage service during event breaks, this buffet came complete with a heat lamp.

Stephen's Take

The tranquillity and the greenery of the fairways reached right up to the hotel and connected with the Greenhouse theme. This clearly defined a unique standard for this hotel and created a relaxed pace and ambience that was evident through-out. The pool was such an unexpected surprise and a luxury for a city location. I can let you know my Dad swam for miles and loved it, not bad for 80! The Greenhouse restaurant was innovative and it was refreshing to dine in a hotel restaurant that challenged the norm.
